DAN & JOYCE'S STORY

Once upon a time, in the wide-open spaces of Adkins, Texas, a young man named Dan was growing up the way good Texas boys do, hardworking, steady, and blissfully unaware that his entire future would change the day he went to visit his sister, Mary Jane, as that’s where he met Joyce.

Joyce hailed from the charming town of Pawelekville, Texas, and when Dan first laid eyes on her, it was all over. One look at her big smile and that mini skirt, and Dan was a goner. Love at first sight? Absolutely. Joyce, however, was… less immediately convinced.

Dan eventually talked her into a first date, a John Denver concert. Joyce may not have been terribly impressed (she’d never admit it), but she did agree to see him again, which, as it turns out, was the beginning of the end for her resistance. After a year of dating, Dan’s steady charm, persistence, and probably a whole lot of patience finally won her over.

On June 19, 1976, they were married in Joyce’s hometown in a lively Polish celebration full of love, laughter, and no doubt excellent food. After a honeymoon at Disney World (because what better way to start a marriage), they began building a life together.

Life meant hard work and big moves, including relocating to Houston for what was supposed to be a job, but turned into a 37-year career for Dan with Valero. Thankfully, that career quicckly brought them back home to San Antonio, right where they belonged.

Along the way, they grew their greatest accomplishment: their family. Daughters Tiffany and Amber arrived, and life filled up with school years, family vacations, busy schedules, and countless memories. Dan put his CPA skills to good use, while Joyce somehow managed to be a bookkeeper and super PTA mom all at once, a role requiring far more skill than any job title can capture. They raised their girls, got them through school, married (Welcome Tracye and Adam!) and eventually watched them start families of their own. Then, in 2011, they unlocked an entirely new level of joy with the arrival of their first granddaughter, Zofia. Soon after came Lexi, Lillian, Luke, and Madeline, multiplying the love, laughter, and reasons to travel.

These days, Dan and Joyce split most their time between Texas and Ohio, following their grandkids with devotion. When they’re not on the road for a game, performance or recital, they treasure time with extended family and sneak in the occasional extended getaway of their own. And in between it all, they recover the only proper way, by working their way through what may very well be every Hallmark movie ever made (sometimes twice, just to be certain).
This June, Dan and Joyce will celebrate 50 years of marriage, five decades of love, partnership, perseverance, laughter, family, and a love story that started with one big smile and one very determined Texas boy.

Here’s to 50 years, and many more memories still to come.
